| Administrator  | None of the eleven Pakistan players included in the IPL draft were picked up by a franchise, apparently as a result of a visa issue. Shahid Afridi's manager claims that the reason franchises chose not to sign Pakistan players was because they were warned that visas would not be issued. Lalit Modi is claiming that all the franchises were free to bid for any player, but it does beggar belief that the likes of Shahid Afridi and Umar Gul would be completely ignored. Less surprising was that England's players were overlooked - with the exception of Eoin Morgan, who is Irish anyway. An unnamed source said it was simply due to the fact that most English cricketers are shit at Twenty20. More mystery surrounds the Pakistan snub, however, as some of the players auctioned helped Pakistan to their World T20 win in England last year. "Lalit Modi and the Indian government have a lot to answer for," said Afridi's manager, Umran Khan. "The way I see it is that, because Afridi and the other Pakistani players would have been employed by an Indian company for the IPL, the Indian government wouldn't issue a visa. "Yet, if Shahid was to play for South Australia in the Champions League, they would issue him with a visa, as they did for Yasir Arafat when he played for Sussex in last year's Champions League." "I think Shahid and the other Pakistani players have been wronged and mistreated here." They are not complaining. Maybe next time when the teams change and new teams are added Pak players will get a chance. |
