Andrew Strauss: ODI Captain

apwebster January 10, 2009 (SpunOut on a Sticky Wicket)
The confirmation that Andrew Strauss will captain England's One-Day team, despite the fact that he hasn't played an ODI since April 2007, makes some sort of sense, in an odd sort of way.

Strauss faces a tough task to maintain unity in a divided dressing room, so it is perhaps inevitable that the ECB have chosen to have the same captain for all forms of the game. There are few players who are guaranteed a place in the England side both for Tests and limited-overs matches, so it was...

The crown is in disarrary

Now that both Pietersen and Moores have resigned there will be plenty of focus on the whole system of English cricket.

They have relied on Pietersen now for a while, and I'm sure his future captain (who we shall call Strauss) would love to have him stay in the line-up.

They have not, however, relied on Moores at all, it seems, for any good results. The team has not moved forwards at a time when it should.

Cricket is the real winner

jrod December 15, 2008 (Cricket With Sticky Balls)
Cricket With Balls takes you through the Chennai test.

Cricket is the real winner.

And Sehwag. And anyone who saw Sehwag. And Sachin. And India, who beat the white imperialists and the terrorists in one foul swoop.

Not England though.

They are not the winners. They can be proud of having the balls to come back, and then playing 3 days of pretty good cricket, but they can’t be winners. Because they lost one of those unlosable matches.

KP leads the way

jrod December 11, 2008 (Cricket With Sticky Balls)
Cricket With Balls takes a look at Kp's first innings overseas as captain.

Before this test series - had I written a test preview of this series - I would have said "England need something special from KP here, lead by example and all that nonsense".

Well he gave them something special, a special load of diddle.

For every trudging Strauss or Cook score, England need a little bit of magic from KP or Freddy to balance it out. Why, because losing 5...
