Why don’t Aussies like 20/20 much?

Jawsey May 15, 2010 (The Jaws Corner)
I made an intriguing observation the other day, as us bloggers on this site gathered to discuss bloggy matters. For all the hullaballoo about IPL 3, and the 20/20 World Cup (which I have been watching, and have found rather enjoyable to see England being good at cricket for a change) very few of the Australian contingent have shown any interest in them. Now, obviously there will be some exceptions, but I’m curious to understand why, in the main, Aussies show a dislike, almost a disdain to the shortest...

My Favourite Player V: Shane Warne

kirby April 1, 2010 (Pad First)
Now for the next installment of the My Favourite Player series: Shane Warne, the undisputed King of Spin.

There are very few men who have had such an impact on the game as one Shane Warne. But putting records and sheer weight of numbers aside, perhaps what makes his career so outstanding is the context in which he did it. He not only revived the art of spin bowling worldwide,...

Merv, 2.0

kirby March 22, 2010 (Pad First)
Ever since debuting in January last year against the touring South Africans, Doug Bollinger has become something of a cult hero among fans. So much so, in fact, that he's beginning to remind me of another solid, popular paceman of the 1980's and 90's ilk: the great Mervyn Gregory Hughes.

5 Reasons Why Steve Smith Will Debut Against New Zealand

kirby March 16, 2010 (Pad First)
When the Australian Test squad for the tour of New Zealand was announced last week, one reasonably surprising inclusion was 20-year-old New South Wales leggie Steve Smith. On first glance, it may seem his inclusion is only ceremonial, but I believe that he will play in the first Test against New Zealand starting on Friday, and these are the five reasons why.

1. The Kid's In Form
Smith was recently named the Steve Waugh medallist for the 2009/10 season (NSW player of the year),...

Why This Summer of Cricket Has Been Like a Pixar Movie

dark_Shadow_ March 4, 2010 (Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here.)
Updated March 4, 2010 at 08:29 AM by Glinn Mgraw
I'm gonna guess most of you have seen the 2006 Pixar movie Cars. For those who haven't, I'll explain the plot (don't spoiler me, you've had three years to see it). Hot stuff racecar Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) is the hottest young racecar out there, but he's also an arrogant prick who reckons he's a one man show. On the way to California for the big finale which will decide who wins the championship between him, arsehole rival Chick (Michael Keaton) and veteran The King (NASCAR legend...
