"He-Man" of Liverpool

Mute January 22, 2010

Liverpool fans have had to endure a very tough season so far. Knocked out of Champions League, languishing on the Premier League table, injuries a plenty..... The list goes on.

Is there anything good to come of this season?

Dirk Kuyt.

He's been a stalwart in the Liverpool line-up for a few years now and each and every game he displays the type of commitment you want to see in every player that pulls on the jersey. I think this piece by the BleacherReport sums up Kuyt the best....
The Dutch International plays a very unselfish type of soccer that is hard to find these days.

He is officially a forward but it is not uncommon to see him battling as a defender. Kuyt runs the wings very well and distributes the ball from there.

Dirk Kuyt has been extremely underrated throughout his career both for the Dutch team and for Liverpool. Yes they love him now, but he had to prove himself over and over again, because he is not a magician with the ball.

Kuyt is one of the hardest workers you will find on a soccer pitch and will give his all every day of the week. Whether it's practice, matches or preparation, his skills come from hard work not talent.

Then how come he is never mentioned as one of the top players of the game? That answer is easy. It is because he is unselfish, not flashy, and modest.
Torres will always score more goals (when he's not injured) and Gerrard will always get more accolades (when he too, is not injured) but a team can never have too many players like Dirk Kuyt.

He's like Stephen Hunt a bit, a very average player who can be very effective. I've played against people like that on Sundays gone by, really irritating when they score lol.

People don't under-rate him, he really is that bad.

In all seriousness though, he isn't a quality player. He tries to replace genuine football talent with trying very hard. He's a poor man's Tevez. The reason he isn't seen as one of the world's top players is because he isn't.

He is a just below average player. With all due respect, I personally think he is SH*T. He has scored for liverpool and provided crosses etc, but needs to do more, MUCH MUCH MUCH MORE. LIVERPOOL ARE SEVENTH AND ARE A TOP 4 SIDE IN THE past 5 seasons. COME ON-ARSENAL WILL DESTROY THEM IN A FEW WEEKS!!! ARSHAVIN WILL HAUNT THEM AGAIN.

Liverpool would be a top 2 side if we had a better manager. We have a great list but our manager makes stupid changes to the side every week. Therefore no one n our side can find any form and when they do they get injured.

Kuyt is a great player whitout him Liverpool would be dull in up front but saying that his first touch isnt that great if he can improve on that he will be even better. GO LIVERPOOL!!!!

By the way Izzy Isma every player cant show the making of a total legend he scores and create plays that help liverpool.Even though we are 7th we have played really well in most games but just couldnt put sides away.If we could we would be in the top four.

i don't think that he has ever been though of as underrated, just look at the work he did for previous club Feyenoord, 71 goals in 101 games. It's no premier league but it is still one of the more quality leagues in Europe. I think people only consider him underrated because they don't see enough of him up front even though he is classed as a striker, but that's all got to do with the liverpool system, wheras if he was playing the way he did for Feyenoord he would be up front
