Twenty20 overload?

apwebster May 30, 2009

The cricketing landscape has changed beyond recognition since India beat Pakistan by 5 runs to win the first World Twenty20. The ICL and IPL have brought Twenty20 a new level of glamour and money, the political situation in the subcontinent has worsened to a dramatic degree, and the world economy has taken a nosedive.

The organiser's of this year's tournament will be hoping that the global appetite for Twenty20 cricket is undiminished by all of these developments, but the disappointing ticket sales for this year's domestic Twenty20 cup in England suggest that may not be the case.

Of course, the quality of players on show will be higher in the international tournament, but it is worth noting as the world and it wife rush to set up Twenty20 competitions that there is a saturation point for any given format, and that this point may not be too far off for the 20-over format.

I'm not a fan of the Twenty20 format, I think its good for maybe a couple of matches in a tour, but I think World Cup format kind of pushes it too far,

T20 is a new form of cricket and it does bring a lot of excitement to the game. most of the people i know prefer this over 50 0ver or test cricket. its a matter of opinion. i myself like it and i hope its here to stay

Me too, I just think T20 is a shortened version of the game that makes it more interresting than the long and boring ODI's and test matches and play hours and hours of defence and singles.

T20 is just a shorten format of cricket were u put a bit more effort into each shot and use ur head and do the shots which you would say are silly in a test match . i like it but test matchers are still the ultimate test of each player.

I personally like T20 but i don't want 50/50 or Test to die out...I think there is enough room to have three main forms of the game.

Hey guys I believe that T20 is a game for ppl who have the concentration of a mouse and who don't properly recognize a proper game of cricket. Look at the ashes for example I bet you that more people will go to a day of the ashes then will go to a game of the world cup

twenty20 is better than 50/50 and test because it has loads of action and it is not to long so you do not have to sit there for 10 hours and just watch ball after ball with no action involved

i play cricket 5 times a week & i think that T20 cricket is the best type of cricket. most people enjoy it cus of the big hits and loads of boundaries. and im one of those people! whats better than seeing KP or freddie smashing someone out the ground.
Love it love it love it !
