Roddick tweets apology
by The Bunyip January 20, 2010

Who said Twitter was a completely useless site for douchebags like Ashton Kutcher to post pictures of his equally-douchy wife to millions of idiots?

Oh, no-one said that?

Well, Andy Roddick used Twitter today for something far from inane: he used the medium to apologise for his bad language and behaviour on court, after getting into yet another spat with an umpire.

Roddick left the court in a rage, having peppered the chair umpire with plenty of expletives after a contentious call denied him his first match point.

The ball was initially ruled out, meaning Roddick had won the game - but was overruled on challenge.

“I’m standing there with my racket back—don’t you think I’m going to %)@*#%# hit it?" yelled Roddick.
“It’s not your job to predict if I’m going to hit it. It’s your job to decide if I could hit it.”

The American had failed to shake the umpire's hand, though on Twitter he claimed that he did not snub him intentionally.

“Did not realize that i didnt shake the umpires hand we were mid argument and i guess it didnt happen not a conscious decision," he wrote.

“Apologies for the language today folks hopefully most kids were asleep by the time I went off …… my bad."

Roddick has set the trend for using the social networking site to apologise - one that Serena Williams may follow, if she loses her temper on court and threatens to kill an official like last year.
