Pompey changes hands... again
by The Bunyip February 4, 2010

It's a sad state of affairs when a club has had the same amount of owners as wins in a season, yet that's exactly the dire situation Portsmouth find themselves in.

A Hong Kong-based businessman Balram Chainrai now owns the club, after he took advantage of a clause in the loan agreement he had with former owner Ali Al Faraj.

But, according to the BBC, Chainrai is hoping to be owner of the club just in the short term - until the perilous financial position the club finds itself in has been stabilised.

The first obstacle Chainrai faces is Portsmouth's upcoming court date, as the club has been handed a winding up notice by HM Revenue and Customs for unpaid taxes.

The playing squad were finally paid their wages yesterday, and put in a spirited performance at Craven Cottage - the League cellar dwellers were the better team for the bulk of the game - only to lose 1-0.

The only reason Chainrai has taken over seems to be his loan of approximately £20m to the club which he looked set to lose, had the club gone bust completely.

And to add a further headache for Pompey, The Sun has today revealed it was indeed Portsmouth manager Avram Grant that they allegedly busted visiting what they labelled a "seedy massage parlour".

Whether there will also be a happy ending for Portsmouth under its fourth owner of the season remains to be seen.
