Keane receives heroes welcome
by The Bunyip February 2, 2010

Robbie Keane may have had one bloody confusing childhood, but it didn't stop Celtic fans welcoming him with open arms as he flew into Scotland just as the January transfer window was about to shut.

Keane has claimed that he was a Celtic fan as a kid - he expressed similar sentiments when he joined Liverpool - and said that he has "always wanted to play" for the club.

The striker joins the Glasgow-based club on loan from White Hart Lane, having found himself well down the Tottenham pecking order and struggling to get a starting spot.

The arrival of Keane ensured Aussie Scott McDonald would be needing to pack his bags: he has joined Middlesborough on a £3.5m transfer.

On a busy day at Celtic Park, Tony Mowbray also picked up Fulham's Diomansy Kamara and Morten Rasmussen as he attempts to give the club an attacking boost.

Thousands of fans proved without a doubt they have no social lives or sense whatsoever, by showing up to welcome the 29-year-old Ireland player - in scenes that didn't quite match Robinho's showy unveiling in Santos.

There is currently no option for Celtic to extend the loan deal and Spurs gaffer Harry Redknapp insists the move is temporary, but the club refused to rule out the possibility of the move being permanent.
