Stick Cricket wins 'best online game'
The awards just keep coming thick and fast for the Stick Sports team, with the oldest - and still the most popular - game in the Stick family picking up a gong for best online cricket simulation game in the CricketGaming.net awards.Stick Cricket picked up a whopping 46.1% of the vote - that's roughly 38% more than the poor alternative offering from another major cricket website that shall not be named (cough Cricinfo cough).
But we're not ones to rubbish our rivals. Not when we've got our own better-than-Cricinfo trumpet to toot, anyway.
Here's what the team said to CricketGaming.net after being told of the award:
The Stick Sports team is stoked to win the Best Online Cricket Simulation game in the Cricket Gaming Awards for Stick Cricket.
The game was first created as a way of avoiding real work, so it gives us great pleasure to know that we're doing our bit to reduce the work productivity of millions around the world.
We were hoping for an awards ceremony with free booze and the chance to give a long-winded, self-aggrandising and pretentious acceptance speech, but this will have to do instead.
On a serious note, Stick Cricket was the first of the Stick Sports and is the main reason why the site has grown to be one of the biggest sport websites on the internet. This award is testament to the fact the tech geeks behind the game, when not on World of Warcraft raids, are one talented bunch.
But most of all, thank you to our fans - who risk their employment, schooling and relationships, all in the quest to hit another six or two… or maybe even master those bloody spinners. Keep trying, and we'll keep working on the game to ensure it remains the best online cricket simulation game out there!"
That's two nominations and two wins so far this awards season. Beat that, James Cameron!
Rumours about the Stick Cricket team signing a movie deal in a bid for Oscar glory are yet to be confirmed, but Brad Pitt is allegedly eager to play the role of The Bunyip. Rupert Grint will, of course, be approached to play the role of Mute (he's the only redhead we could think of) while we're open to suggestions on which actor would best suit the role of Fixxer...
