Top 10 Greatest Sportsmen

The Top 10 returns this week with the Greatest Sportsman of all time. Unlike other Top 10's, I haven't tried to list these from 10 - 1, due to each being the master of their own sport.

Instead, I'm just going to list 10 sportsman who will be forever remembered as one of the greatest ever to play their chosen sport.

Tiger Woods

Tiger is one of the most marketable and well known sportsman the world has ever known, not to mention he is a genius with a golf club in his hands. From child prodigy to highest paid sportsman in 2008, Woods will forever be one of golf's greatest.

Don Bradman

What can I say about The Don?He is the greatest sportsman ever to play any sport.

Muhammad Ali

Ali dubbed himself "The Greatest" and no one can really challenge him for that title. His famous quote of "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" will forever live on in boxing history.

Shaun White

He's young, a ranga and he's been dominated snowboarding since he was 13. Since then he's added skateboarding to his repertoire and has been dominating that as well. Bit greedy don't you think?

Carl Lewis

In a career that spanned 17 years, Lewis won 9 Olympic gold medals and 8 World Championship gold medals. His lifetime of accomplishments have seen him voted as "Sportsman of the century" and "Olympian of the Century".

Roger Federer

I really wanted to put Pete Sampras in here but when the Fed Express won his 15th Grand Slam title recently, I couldn't fight it any longer. Roger Federer is the greatest tennis player of all time.

Lance Armstrong

Armstrong won the Tour De France for a record breaking seven consecutive times. Not to mention, he also survived testicular cancer. A shoe-in for any great sportsman list.

Michael Jordan

Alongside Tiger Woods and Muhammad Ali as one of the most well known sportsman of the all time, Michael Jordan justifies this with a grace and finesse that few possess. His accolades are too many to mention, so go and read them yourself.

Michael Schumacher

According to the official Formula 1 site, he is "statistically the greatest driver the sport has ever seen" and few could argue with that, winning five consecutive championships with Ferrari.

Kelly Slater

A 9 time surfing world champion including 5 consecutive titles, put Slater in the elite of his sport. Not to mention he is also the youngest (at age 20) and the oldest (at age 36) to win the ASP title.

So, who are your greatest sportsman of all time?

I guess its hard to place players from team sports in top 10 lists, but hard to argue with the people chosen in this case.

Great list -- all of them are definitely at the top of their respective sports.

I might have had Michael Phelps in there, but it's hard to imagine who I'd take out.

Hard to believe you have included a person who is from an obscure sport where the majority would not know who he is i would say you missed Pele

Sachin is good but he's certainly not one of the Top 10 sportsman of all time. If I started included him, I'd have to include Lara, Warne and countless other cricketers.

I disagree with u Mr. MUTE. Sachin is by far the best cricketer modern gen has ever seen. When Do Bradman used to play, the game of cricket was not that developed . U never had the bowling power of courtney walsh, richard hadlee, malcom marshall, wasim akram, kapil dev, gundappa vishawanath, (nowdays bret lee, mcgrath, shane warne . The pitches were also no that developed. So , If its your perception of not having sachin in top ten , then let it be. But then u r contradicting ur own statement. Roger Fedrer in place of Sampras!!! Why ??? Because, the former has own 15 GS@@@ If records are to judge the prowess of one , then I would differ with ur ranking. In tennis u have rod laver, bjorn borg, mcenroe. Who had a real torrid time playing at that level , when the fitness was also a key issue. So I am sorry, but ur ranking is totally erroneous(ONy a certainn of players like Woods , Armstrong cannot be questioned due to there outstanding show all the time.)

    Never heard of Shaun White.
The omisssion of Pele is unforgivable. In cricket Garry Sobers the greatest allrounder would have been a better choice .In his day he would have walked on to any teams starting 11 with either bat or ball.......the combination unbeatable.

So, you're saying that Garry Sobers is better than Don Bradman?

Good for the most part. Maybe there should be a Gareth Edwards or a Bobby Charlton in there?

Bad list. I would take out the surfer guy, I can't imagine many people have heard of him, and replace him with Pele. Also take out Shaun White, Tony Hawk would be a much better choice.

Actually, come to think of it, Layne Beachley could have gone close, whe was won 7 Womens world surfing tours and 6 of those were consecutive. And Zippeh, just because people are ignorant to Slater's glory doesnt mean he shouldnt be on that list.

And it's my list. So I get to choose who I want on there. I realised as soon as I posted it that I'd excluded/forgotten/overlooked all of the great footballers in the world such as Pele, Best and Maradona etc but hey, I'd much prefer to meet Kelly Slater personally than any of those guys.
